Dear Central Berkshire Families,

I want to first and foremost congratulate our graduating class of 2020-21. They have had multiple challenges this past year and have demonstrated resilience, dedication, and a desire to succeed! We are so proud of them. This past week they visited their elementary schools in caps and gowns and were greeted with well-deserved enthusiasm!

Two recent administrative changes include the appointment of a new Nessacus Principal, Mr. John Vosburgh, and a new Director of Student Services, Mr. Nathan Loux. John Vosburgh is currently the Nessacus Middle School  Vice Principal of Teaching and Learning and Nathan Loux is currently the Vice Principal at Craneville Elementary School. We are excited to be welcoming them to their new roles for the 2021-22 school year!

As we look toward the fall, I am anticipating a typical start to our year. I will keep everyone informed of pertinent information during the summer months.

Have a nice weekend!

Leslie Blake-Davis

The New Wahconah/Updates

As many of you are aware, this past year Central Berkshire has been in the construction phase of a new high school that is being built for the 2021-22 school year. This new building symbolizes the dedication and commitment that our community holds toward providing progressive and collaborative learning spaces that will prepare our students for learning opportunities that are most meaningful to them and will carry them beyond Central Berkshire.

As you can imagine, it has been a challenging year to embark on a construction project of this magnitude in the midst of a pandemic. Our timelines have been tight with the goal being to open our new high school doors on September 1, 2021. Principal Robb, Director of Finance and Operations, Mr. Boino and I have participated in bi-weekly progress meetings to ensure we have the most updated information related to key project timelines. As such, I wanted to share with you the following around our projected reopening:

  • The critical spaces within the building are currently on schedule which means we anticipate opening school to our high schoolers on September 1, 2021.

  • The gymnasium is expected to be completed in early September.

  • The auditorium is expected to be completed in late September.

  • Any ongoing completion work will be done in full consideration of our new high school as (first and foremost) a teaching and learning space.

  • Covid related supply chain issues arise every day and we are doing our best to manage around such issues. Please keep in mind there may be unknown matters that come up as a result that could impact the completion schedule.

We are grateful to the many individuals who are helping to make this new building a timely reality for us in a way that is sensitive to the academic and social and emotional learning needs of our high school students. We are feeling optimistic as this building project enters the final months and weeks toward completion. And I am looking forward to sharing more information about the new school as we prepare to transition next door!
