Our mission at Pupil Services - Special Education is to serve and support:
- The Special Needs Students from Preschool to age 22
- The Parents of Special Needs Students in understanding the Special Education process
- The Teachers and Service Providers of Special Needs Students
- The Early Childhood Population of Our District
To reach our goals at Pupil Services we:
- Implement the Special Education Law under Massachusetts Laws 603 CMR 28.00.
- Coordinate and provide specialized services under 603 CMR 28.00, such as Speech, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Psychological Services
- Test and evaluate students referred under 603 CMR 28.00 in multiple areas
- Coordinate and Chair TEAM Meetings to develop Individualized Educational Plans (IEP)
- Prepare and distribute computerized copies of student's handwritten IEP composed by TEAM at meetings
- Actively pursue state and federal grants to support our services
- Maintain Early Childhood Programs and Activities including Preschool Screening, Preschool Programs, and collaboration with Berkshire County Head Start and Central Berkshire Community Partnership
- Assist with Early Prevention of School Failure Testing and Post-testing of Kindergarten Children
- Plan for Transition from High School
Our Pupil Services Office serves
- Six Schools within our Seven-Town District
- The Referral and Evaluation Needs of a Student Population of Approximately 2,300
- The Early Childhood Needs of a Preschool Population of Approximately 350
- The Special Educational and Service Needs of Approximately 400 Special Needs Students
