Nessacus Regional Middle School
Music Technology
Welcome to Music Technology at Nessacus
The Central Berkshire Regional Music Program is dedicated to creating learning environments that are based on research on effective teaching and learning.
When funding became available, the opportunity to deliver a state-of-the-art Music Curriculum that could address recent questions of student engagement, motivation, differentiated learning and technological applications in the classroom became a reality. With the purchase of 23 DELL computers and Yamaha PSR-262 MIDI keyboards, students now have an opportunity to read and write music in a "real world" environment where they are responsible for playing, composing and arranging music.
Take a look at our new music lab!
Every student now has the opportunity to
create music using MIDI technology.
What is MIDI?
MIDI is an acronym for “Musical Instrument Digital
Interface” Basically, what this means
is the computer and piano keyboards communicate with each other. This allows
students to play actual pitches on the piano and see them appear on the computer
screen. When the pitches (notes) have been entered, then students can rearrange
and listen to the music they create.
CURRICULUM
What are the
Learning Benefits to this program??
All
students benefit from music education. It appeals to the creative and abstract
parts of our brains. Everyone moves and
progresses at their OWN pace—there is no pressure to “keep up” with their
neighbor. Everyone has the opportunity to compose and create, listen and revise
their music. The student is in
control. Advanced music students can move ahead quickly and explore advanced
theory and composition activities.
