We believe ......

.... that the CBRSD philosophy can best be implemented at the early adolescent stage by using a middle school design.

.... that early adolescents have unique educational, physical and emotional needs that must be recognized and addressed in order that the middle school experience is successful for all.

.... that Nessacus Middle School educators should be knowledgeable in their subjects and committed to teaching early adolescents.

.... that Nessacus Middle School education should allow individuals opportunities to explore their talents and the freedom to discover areas of special interest as well as to insure the basic skill mastery necessary for success at the high school level.

.... that learning to learn should be emphasized...and objectives should build toward excellence...and the variety of curricular offerings and learning activities should provide all students with frequent opportunities for success...and instruction in all subjects should provide students with opportunities for developing problem-solving, decision-making and other thinking skills.

.... that the educational process of Nessacus should encourage and support the development of warm human relationships....and our school should foster a positive climate where mutual respect is encouraged and pride in the school and community is developed.

.... that instruction of Nessacus should be both teacher and student centered: differences in teaching and learning styles should be encouraged...and unique opportunities should exist for students, faculty, and administrators to work together toward intellectual development.

.... that middle school learning should be viewed as both a competitive and cooperative process: learning and working in cooperative situations so that students may compete successfully in a global economy.

.... that the Nessacus approach to discipline should develop a sense of respect and moral responsibility in all students: faculty, parents and community should strive together to achieve this aim.

.... that all students need constant reinforcement so that they can develop and maintain high self esteem...and they need adult caring and guidance in developing high self esteem: therefore, all adults in the school should be included in this process.
