Acceptable Use Forms

Each year, students and parents must complete and return to the school, and AUP form. These forms are handed out at the beginning of the year with other official paperwork such as emergency cards. If needed, the AUP form is also available here. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to open the document and can be downloaded free here:

Classroom Rules

I have three very general classroom rules that students must abide by.

 1.  Be Responsible

 2.  Be Respectful

 3.  Be Curious

I have found that most, if not all student behavior can be categorized under these general rules.

All of these rules, as well as the characteristics and traits listed below will be discussed, taught, and reinforced through modeling throughout the year.

Communication

Communication between parent, child and teacher can sometimes encounter difficulties. Notes don’t get home, messages are lost or parts left out. At any point, should there be a question or a concern, please feel free to contact me at the school or to stop in. If I don’t know about the problem, I can not try to help fix it.

Learner Characteristics

In my classroom I have the following Learner Characteristics that I strive to have all the students exhibit:

            Thoughtful (knowledgeable)

Self-Confident (risk-taker)

Creative (generative)

Resourceful (organized)

Industrious (persistent)

Collaborative (the ability to work with others)

Independent (the ability to work by oneself)

In addition, I have broken the Independent Learner Characteristic into the following desired traits:

Work quietly so that others will not be distracted.

Take care of materials in the room.

Know when and where to get help and materials.

Work in the proper place.

Follow directions for the area where you are working.

When you finish one activity go directly to your next activity

Focus on your work

This year I will be making a concerted effort to improve the level of respect shown by students to (A) each other, (B) other’s property, and (C) themselves. The negative talk and constant “put-downs” that seem to define teenage conversation these days needs to disappear. This kind of talk hurts both those that are subjected to it, and those who regularly make it part of their everyday speech. This form of disrespect also jeopardizes an open learning environment and has no place in our classrooms or schools. I have in the past, with the help of parents, made great strides in reducing this behavior. It is time to once again, as adults, assert our opposition to “negative talk and put downs”. With parental support of this effort, I am sure we can see improvement in this area.
